Public Works

Purpose

The City of Charlevoix Public Works Department oversees the day-to-day maintenance and cleaning of City streets, parks, and other City-owned properties. The Department also provides several services to residents, including:

  • Brush pickup
  • Chipping
  • Fall leaf pickup

These services are paid for by the "refuse" portion of all tax bills. The Public Works Department is also responsible for the sanitary sewer collection and water distribution systems.

East Park Adopt-a-Brick Program

On October 21, 2013, the Charlevoix City Council authorized the Adopt-a-Brick program. The bricks are located in East Park's Plaza B. The bricks can be used to honor your family, create a legacy or remember a loved one. The cost of each brick is $100 and only a limited number of bricks will be available. All Adopt-a-Brick proceeds will benefit East Park's maintenance costs, including the interactive water fountain. You can download the program application form (PDF).

The four inch by eight inch finished bricks have a smooth surface and beveled edge. The bricks will be etched and highlighted in black, resulting in a lasting tribute that really stands out! Brick samples are on display in the City Manager's Office.

Brush Pickup

Brush pickup is routinely provided on city streets. In order to make this service efficient, it is asked that residents place grass clippings, leaves, and other decomposable material unbagged in a separate pile from tree branches and other woody material that requires chipping.  We can not pick up sod, dirt piles, or mulch piles.  Find further information about the brush pickup (PDF).
