  1. Winter Recreation Workshop - Dress for Winter Success

    January 22, 2020, 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM @ Mt. McSauba Lodge

Outdoor recreation doesn’t have to start with spring flowers or end with fall foliage. Winter Recreation is both fun and exciting. But fear of the cold keeps a lot of us locked up inside all winter. This hands-on workshop will assist you in preparing for your next (or maybe first) winter adventure. This class will help you to dress for winter success and touch on basics of staying safe in the cold and snow. Overcoming freezing temperatures means learning basic techniques for staying comfortable and warm. You’ll gain tips of layering, keeping your feet warm, your hands warmer, and ensure that you discover the fun of Winter recreation. Annie and Cole from Clothing Company will be sharing advice and insight. Please pre-register so we are prepared with hand outs and examples.

  2. Candlelight Hikes at Mt. McSauba

    January 24, 2020, 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM @ Mt. McSauba

This is the 2nd year Charlevoix Recreation will host Friday night Candlelight Hikes. Set your own pace on a self-guided trail hike (or snowshoe or cross-country ski) and follow the candle lit path to a camp fire and hot cocoa. Hikes begin December 20 and run through February 28 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM. Charlevoix Recreation is currently seeking volunteers to help with a number of responsibilities surrounding the hikes. Volunteer positions include Set-Up, Tear Down, Putting out Candles, Trail Head Greeters and Fire Pit Greeters. “If you have an interest in getting some exercise, meeting up with old friends or making new ones this winter, consider volunteering at one or more of our hikes. Those that worked and volunteered last year had a really good time. It really is nice to see so many people in our community out on the trails, especially in the winter!”, said Kent Knorr, Recreation Director. For more about the Candlelight Hikes, call the Recreation Department at 231-547-3253.
